Thanks to smartphones, digital technology has literally become a part of us. It is our daily companion. But do we understand how it works? How do social networks recommend posts and search engines recommend advertising to us. The word "algorithm" seems like a magic formula that has become a common part of our vocabularies. What exactly does this word mean? And how are algorithms and artificial intelligence related? We think of this combination as the solution to many of our problems; an all-knowing system to simplify our lives; to automate processes even more; to replace humans in monotonous work; to make our lives "smarter". Is the current version of artificial intelligence really intelligent? And what exactly does the term "machine learning" mean and how are the two terms related?

In this workshop we will focus on the word algorithm - its meaning and importance in today's digitally saturated society. We will also explore its relationship to artificial intelligence, or machine learning, and focus primarily on the complicated moments when artificial intelligence gets out of control and when it discriminates. Why is this happening? Is anyone responsible? The workshop explains all the above concepts in a friendly and understandable way, so that they become comprehensible even without a background in technology and technical vocabulary.

The workshop was developed in collaboration with Tactical Tech as part of the What the Future Wants project. It will be complemented by a travelling exhibition that can be delivered at your school or organisation (from April 2022).

Surprise friends or family with an unconventional afternoon, or get to know your colleagues in other roles - you can order this programme as a family workshop or team building. More information.
